Brooke Merrelll, Denali National Park, stated the purpose is to provide Denali National Park gravel for in-park administrative uses such as the Denali Park Road maintenance and construction projects. PROPOSED WORK: The applicant proposes to extract and stockpile up to 66,600 cubic yards of gravel within about 185 acres of exposed river gravel bars over 5 years. The gravel would be extracted at shallow depths above ground water, using excavators and dump trucks. Material would be temporarily stockpiled onsite and transported by dump truck to the Denali Park stockpiling area near the park residential facilities west of the project. Reclamation of the area would be by natural riverine flooding and deposition processes. The project is expected to begin in summer 2026 through 2031, with biannual excavation of about 22,200 cubic yards of material, with each gravel extraction impacting an area of about 10 acres. All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed plan (sheets 1-3), dated January 07, 2026.
