New roads helping agriculture in Bangladesh
A Bangladesh man travels down a newly constructed road in early October in Jessore, Bangladesh. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District, in collaboration with the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Local Government Engineering Department of Bangladesh, have completed eight roads in Jessore in the first government-to-government agreement in the country. The construction of six more roads in rural areas of Bangladesh is scheduled to begin in December. The roads are instrumental in helping local farmers get their crops to the market, children get to school easier and facilitating families’ access to medical clinics, thus increasing the quality of life for the people of the region.
