JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON - Ryan Zachry assumed duties as the small business professional for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District in November.

In his new position, Zachry informs and advises the district leadership on all matters that affect small businesses throughout the acquisition process including acquisition planning, source selection and contract performance. As the small business professional, he will provide advice to small businesses concerning acquisition procedures, information regarding proposed acquisitions and how to do business with the government.

Zachry previously served as a business opportunity specialist at the Small Business Administration, Alaska District office since 2018. While at the SBA, he provided advice and regulatory guidance to small businesses in the 8(a) Business Development Program, Veteran Owned, Women Owned, and HUBZone small businesses throughout Alaska.

From 2006-18, he served as an acquisitions officer with the U.S. Army in the 410th Contracting Support Brigade, U.S. Embassy Bogota, Human Resources Command, U.S. Central Command, and the U. S Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District. From 1998-2006 he served as an artillery officer with the 1st Armored Division and Third Corps Artillery.

Zachry was the contracting officer for the USACE National Contracting Team of the Year Award in 2014. While in the military he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Distinguished Meritorious Service Medal Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and he is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and Army Logistics Management College. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Wyoming and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Louisville. He is originally from Wyoming and is married with four children.
