Mr. Alec Venechuk's (City and Borough of Juneau) stated purpose is to allow the Stabler Point Rock Quarry to continue production and provide Juneau with a viable aggregate resource. The project is located within Section 22, T. 40 S., R. 65 E., Copper River Meridian, USGS Map Juneau B-3; at Latitude 58.38470º N., Longitude -134.67155º W.; at the Stabler Point Rock Quarry, in Juneau, Alaska. PROPOSED WORK: The applicant requests authorization for the following work in waters of the U.S. consisting of forested wetlands: Clear standing timber from site using an excavator, then use an excavator, bulldozer, and/or off road truck to place stripped overburden fill material in a stockpile within forested wetlands. Material would be deposited in the stockpile starting from the flat at the top (west side). Material would continue to be placed in layers moving eastwards until the toe approaches the limits of development. Slope would be at angle of repose (1-1/2:2). Stockpiling would continue vertically once the toe has been established and stabilized. The proposed storage area encompasses 1.8 acres, of which 1.0 acres are forested wetlands. All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed plan (sheets 1-2), dated December 15, 2016.
