The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF), states that the project purpose is to demolish and rebuild a heavy freight mooring facility. Work being proposed consists of widening and re-grading the existing ramp, constructing a new four pile breasting dolphin and a new three pile tire fender dolphin. A mooring ramp and armor rock embankment would also be built by discharging approximately 1,900 cubic yards of fill material below the high tide line of Tongass Narrows into 0.5-acre marine waters. A total of (12), 20-inch diameter, six 24-inch diameter, four 30-inch diameter piles will be permanent installed via hammer or vibratory pile driver. 12 temporary piles not to exceed 20-inch diameter will be installed and removed at project completion. All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed plan (sheets 1-5), dated June 2019.
