WATERWAY AND LOCATION OF THE PROPOSED WORK: The Conservation Fund has prepared these instrument modification requests to establish the AR-1, AR-2, AR-3, and AR-4 mitigation sites to protect a total of 319.96 acres. The 79.97-acre AR-1 site is located on the Arctic coastal plain in sub-basin hydrologic unit code 19060503 and would protect palustrine and estuarine wetlands. The 40-acre AR-2 site is located on the Arctic foothills in sub-basin HUC 19060502 and would protect palustrine wetlands, riverine wetlands, and upland buffers. The 39.98-acre AR-3 site is located on the Arctic coastal plain in sub-basin HUC 19060502 and would protect palustrine wetlands. The 159.99-acre AR-4 site is located on the Noatak River delta in sub-basin HUC 19050403 and would protect palustrine, riverine, and estuarine wetlands and upland buffers.  PROPOSED SITE: The sponsor proposes to preserve a total of the 319.96 acres across the 4 mitigation sites. The goals of the mitigation sites are to provide appropriate mitigation for impacts, within the authorized service area, by providing wetland preservation. The sponsor has proposed that The Conservation Fund's Arctic Service Area be used as the service area for the proposed sites. The Arctic Service Area contains most of the USGS' Arctic Slope sub-region and about half of the Northwest sub-region. These sub-regions correspond directly to the level 2 hydrologic unit codes 1906 and 1905 respectively. The political boundaries of the North Slope Borough and the Northwest Arctic Borough were considered in the creation of the Arctic Service Area.  Comments on this project should be made in writing, addressed to the Alaska District Corps of Engineers (ATTN: Danielle Shack), CEPOA-RD-SA, Post Office Box 6898 JBER, Alaska 99506-0898 or by email to with the project name and number in the subject line.
