Douglas Island Pink and Chum Inc.'s stated purpose is to remove sediment that has accumulated in the existing broodstock holding/saltwater rearing site for the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery. Douglas Island Pink and Chum Inc.'s requests authorization for the following work in navigable waters of the United States: Dredge 5,000 cubic yards of marine sediment from 0.73 acres below the mean high water mark (approximate elevation +15.4 feet above the 0.0 foot contour) (MHW) to provide sufficient water depth for juvenile salmon rearing and returning adult salmon staging prior to ascending the hatchery fish pass. The applicant is proposing to perform the dredging with a clam shell excavator. Dredge material would be deposited in a barge, with return flow, for transport to the proposed disposal site within Gastineau Channel. All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed plan (sheets 1-5), dated May 14, 2015.
