The applicant, Eielson Air Force Bases' stated purpose is to fill in ponds adjacent to flightline to prevent waterfowl hazards to aircraft. These ponds pose a hazard to taxing aircraft. Waterfowl are attracted to these ponds as nesting habitat. In the summer of 2015, 2,344 birds were dispersed within the area. These ponds need to be filled to protect aircraft from flying waterfowl.
PROPOSED WORK: Place 43,604 cubic yards of clean fill and hydroaxed vegetation materials into 3.8 acres of ponds located adjacent to flightline and refueling area. All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed plan (sheets 1-3), dated October 16, 2015.
