Ms. Joy Hobbs (Slana Community Corporation) stated the purpose is to construct an alternate access route (2 Mile Road) to Slana settlement from Nabesna Road.
The project site is located within Section 28, T. 11 N., R. 8 E., Copper River Meridian; USGS Quad Map Nabesna C-6; Latitude 62.7019°N, Longitude 143.9208°W; approximately 2.3 miles east of Highway 1; near Slana, Alaska.
PROPOSED WORK: The applicant proposes the following:
Impact Area 1: After-the-fact (ATF) authorization for discharging gravel fill into 2.5 acres of forested non-tidal wetlands during construction of an unpaved road between Slana settlement and Nabesna Road.
Impact Area 2: Discharge 40 cubic yards of fill into 0.02-acre of non-tidal wetlands directly adjacent to Rufus Creek for the purpose of installing a 10 foot by 30 foot bottomless culvert to complete the access route to Slana settlement.
The road portion of the project was completed in 2016. The culvert is proposed to be installed in 2017.
