The Conservation Fund and Great Land Trust are proposing
the SC-1/Mud Lake compensatory mitigation site from the preservation of the
SC-1 Mud Lake property. The purpose of
the preservation site is to protect high value aquatic resources, and to help
maintain the ecological function of the Knik River watershed. The goal of the preservation site is to
provide compensatory mitigation for impacts to aquatic sites authorized by
Department of the Army permits in The Conservation Fund’s Southcentral Service
Area and Great Land Trust's Mat-Su Borough Service Area. Factors considered in the selection of this
site included the presence of high-quality aquatic resources, priority lands,
the presence of threats to the aquatic resources, and the practicability of
self-sustaining preservation. The SC-1
Mud Lake property is located on Mud Lake near the Knik River, within Section
17, 18, 19 & 30, T. 17 N., R. 3 E., Seward Meridian, Alaska; Latitude
61.552° N., Longitude 148.972° W. The
proposed mitigation site is approximately 796 acres in size and is proposed to
be preserved with a conservation easement and a non-development covenant. Comments on this project should be made in
