A, Suite 101, Anchorage, AK 99517, Tel. 907-754-5139, email: chris.eckert@teck.com, states that the purpose of the project is to expand the Red Dog Mine’s Tailings Storage Facility and Waste Dump facility to contain mill material and waste rock from the Red Dog Mine’s Aqqaluk and Qanaiyaq deposits. Work being proposed includes the following three steps, Waste dump facility and access road: Placement of contaminated waste rock from Aqqaluk and Qanaiyaq deposits into 31.7 acres, including uplands and wetlands; Tailings storage pond: The placement of 68,085 cubic yards (CY) of clean fill into 12 acres of uplands, and the placement of 20,104 CY of clean gravel into 12.5 acres of wetlands to raise the level of the Red Dog Mine Tailings Pond. This will include raising all sides of the tailings pond, including the main and back dams from 986 feet to 1,006 feet above mean sea level in phases between 2018 and 2024. The main haul road will also be relocated to accommodate the back dam raise; Also, All work would be performed in accordance with the enclosed main waste dump extension plans (sheets 1-3), dated March 8, 2018 and tailings pond expansion (sheet 1) dated March 8, 2018. The project site is located within Section 29, T. 31N., R. 18W., Kateel River Meridian; Latitude 68.0520º N., Longitude 162.8479º W.; near Kivalina, Alaska.
