  • Dam safety awareness day open house set for May 31 at Chena Project

    A dam safety awareness day is scheduled for May 31 at Moose Creek Dam at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project in North Pole. The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the dam’s control works deck. It is free and open to the public.
  • Tough conditions no match for test well remediation

    Since 2009, more than 7,800 tons of contaminated soil polluted the remote location of Test Well No. 9 near Umiat, a historic oil exploratory base camp. The conditions are harsh with the site located more than 100 miles from the nearest road system in the National Petroleum Reserve – Alaska. Operations at the site officially completed this year.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District is proposing to conduct repairs to federal navigation features at St. Paul Harbor on St. Paul Island.
  • Corps employee rescues canine from watery demise

    Scooby, a boxer-breed dog, fell through thawing ice on the Eagle River April 18 near Anchorage leading her frantic owner to call for help. Luckily, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District employee Mike MacMillan, project manager in the Humanitarian Assistance Program, was home to answer the call from his neighbor in distress.
  • Corps relocates field office from Kenai to Soldotna, increases customer traffic flow

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District has completed the relocation of its regulatory field office on the Kenai Peninsula to Soldotna.
  • Corps to discuss Alaska Deep-Draft Arctic Port System Study April 16 in Nome

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District and the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will present findings on the Tentatively Selected Plan for the Alaska Deep-Draft Arctic Port System Study.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District has established the Alaska Area Engineer Office at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Staff members from its restructured northern and southern area engineer offices consolidated March 4 to create the new shop.
